I M P O R T A N T !
---------------------
Thank you for your interest in Coeli - Electric Planisphere.
Coeli utilizes Super VGA graphics via the VESA standard interface to
generate highly realistic views of the heavens anywhere in the world.
However, due to the vagaries of 'standards' in the swiftly changing arena
of advanced graphics ( which the IBM PC was never originally designed to
handle ), your system as it is currently set up may not allow Coeli to
function optimally.
You should be prepared for possible initial disappointment.
But have no fear: with some perseverence you will be able to configure your
system's video so that Coeli's skies display faultlessly.
You will need a VESA DRIVER in order to do this.
The best universal VESA driver is undoubtedly UniVBE from SciTech Software.
You may already have a copy of UniVBE - if you're a gamer, you'll probably
have received one bundled with an Electronic Arts title. If you don't,
it can be obtained easily from the following sources:
The Public Domain and Shareware Library (PDSL)
Winscombe House
Beacon Road
Crowborough
East Sussex
TN6 1UL
United Kingdom
Just ask for disk number 003813, where it will be found among
several other graphics utilities. PDSL's catalogue describes
it as the Universal Vesa VBE v.4.3, 'a small TSR providing the
latest VESA BIOS extensions for most SVGA cards on the market'
Here are some numbers for PDSL:
Tel. 01892 663298
Fax. 01892 667473
BBS (8,N,1) 01892 661149 / 667090 / 667091
Or, if you have a modem, try one of these:
World Wide Web : http://www.scitechsoft.com
Internet/FTP : ftp.scitechsoft.com
Compuserve : GO VESA (file library 12)
America Online : Keyword VESA
Finally, SciTech Software's own direct mailing address is:
SciTech Software
5 Governors Lane,
Suite D
Chico, CA 95926
USA
Tel. (orders only) : 800-4UNIVBE
: 800-486-4823
Main & Technical Support: 916-894-8400
Fax 510-208-8026
We would urge you, in any case, to try and obtain the very latest version of
UniVBE, as Coeli will then be more likely to run problem-free with your
setup, especially if you own a recent Pentium system.
If odd events occur on your screen within the first few minutes of starting
Coeli, don't panic:
simply wait until things appear to settle, and then press [ESC]. If this
achieves nothing and the screen data is completely unintelligible, you may
have to reset your computer by either switching off and on again, or by
pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL].
You should then consult the following guides included with your Coeli package:
COELI.TXT and HELP-ME!.DOC
It will also be a good idea to read through any documentation provided with
your VESA driver. Good Luck!
